Uthamaputhiran Runs into Trouble

Dhanush's latest hit Uthamaputhiran has been banned in western Tamil Nadu- Coimbatore (Kovai) and Salem territories.

The powerful Gounder community who holds sway in this region has objected to derisive comments against the community in the comedy scenes in the film.

About 300 members of the newly formed Kongunadu Munnetra Kazhagam (KMK), an outfit of the Gounder community has carried out protest, outside theatres screening the film.

GK Nagaraj a member of KMK is quoted saying in a leading newspaper:  "Uthamaputhiran  features derogatory dialogues against the Gounder community. It portrays the community as an illiterate and money-crazy community."

Following the protests district collectors, in this area have asked theater owners to stop screening the film, "to avoid any sort of trouble".
